Our Story
Buddies Service has been set up as a service for our friends who have a learning disability or those who are socially isolated.
We have been formed since june 2017 as a result of a simular service closing.
Myself Philip Charles is the service ownwer who had been managing the service until 2019. I have had over 20 years experience in the care sector.
since 2019 when moving to Blackpool i have had a manager in charge .
Mandy has been instrumental in the progression of Buddies with also 20 years plus experience under her belt.
We encourage our clients to have fun, learn, make friends and enjoy their time with us.
As well as our Day service we also offer 1-1 community support, where we can assist with shopping, bill payments , fun things like bingo trips.
this service can also be funded by local authority or privately.

Finally we run our day service by voluenteers and work closely with the local college.

MISSION STATEMENT
Buddies Day Service is a day centre and community support service that serves the Swale area.
We serve the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and support for their families.
Buddies Day Service’s mission is to provide opportunities, activities and learning for adults with autism, learning and developmental disabilities, anxiety and a need for social skills.
The aim is to empower them to improve their lives, increase their independence and adopt supportive relationships within the community.
My plan is to open a day centre for people with a learning disability or those who are elderly or socially isolated.
The business is run from a static van in Halfway but previously from the Masters House, Trinity Road, Sheerness, Kent. However the business began ‘hubbing’ with in different places until we secured a deal on the above premises.
We are able to run the company on a volunteer basis and hope to use the local area to seek these volunteers.
All paid and non paid staff are DBS checked and all given the basic training and guidance.
We will offer various courses from cooking, travel training, reading and maths and the more fun things like cross words, puzzles, art and quizzes. We will also include healthy projects like keep fit, swimming and healthy eating.
Buddies Day Service began trading after I was made redundant due to a closure of a similar service that I managed. I have over 16 years experience in the care sector and have gained a lot of qualifications and knowledge. I hold NVQ3 and all mandatory training has been kept up to date.
All clients will have an initial assessment followed by a care plan, PCP and then a list of KPI’s which will be followed and worked upon weekly.
The service is open Monday to Friday 9am till 3pm with free transport within Swale if required. We also have the scope to do 1-1 support from 3pm till 9pm Monday to Friday and Saturdays 10am till 4pm. We will offer a light lunch menu and encourage the clients to interact with others and build their social skills.
We are closed on a Sunday at present but again this can change. We also offer Friday or Saturday monthly evening activities.

Buddies Service Where friendships are made. The service is for those with a learning disability, autism health issue, people who are socially isolated or elders. 18 - 70 + years old. Drop in for a couple of hours a week or come for the whole day. A wide range of activities are on offer if you choose or just sitting with new friends chatting. It's your day service use it how you wish A day service for those with a learning disability and additional needs. Based on Sheppey supporting people in Swale. Kent card and private clients welcome. A typical day consists of : Swimming Art Lunch Quizzes Free time In addition to the day service we also offer a supporting independence service based with in the community. We are Buddies want to enrich your lives and empower you to be independent, come along meet new people and make lasting friendships and even more lasting memories.
